Life of a First Generation American

Life of a First Generation American by Karelly Vidrio
This photo shows the starting point of a new life in a new country for me. This picture represents the American Dream my parents wished and the familial love and unity we have. This was the first day in our new house when my dad could funally  afford living in the US. I was born in the US but lived part of my child hood in Tijuana since it was way cheaper for my parents to afford a decent living condition. This pictures represents the start of moving to a whole new different country with knowing anything nor the language, starting from the bottom. At first glance you can see a family photo, me in the purple sweater, and we are all hugging each other.
What you see in this picture is the exit from the border of  San Ysidro to Tijuana, Mexico. From the USA side. This picture here represents the borderlands in which I grew up in between Tijuana and San Diego. After moving to San Diego I missed a lot of my friends and the places I used to go when I was a kid so my mom would take me and my siblings on the weekends for road trips to Tijuana.
This picture was the start of a new begging in my life. In 2019 I decided to join my College newspaper, "The Sun newspaper at Southwestern college, I felt in love with my career and the ongoing adventures this careers takes you. When I joined I went in their not knowing what I still wanted to do for the rest of my life. After joining the paper and having the opportunity to work with the photo section I became the photo assistant oft the section I loved most. For every story you need also an image that can speak for itself and be related to the context that you speak in your writing.
My first interview that I did at Border Field State Park to pastor John Fanestil. My first interview was at the border between the Mexico and USA. Every Sunday he would go and have a small session of mass were families from both sides could reunite.
My first package at SDSU trying out broadcast these time, this was shoot at the border in San Ysidro. After gathering the interviews and have written the story, I decided that I wanted to document this and get some B Roll footage of what it looks like when student have to cross the border everyday to get to school.
